U-17 Reggae Girlz arrive in Puerto Rico
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Jamaica Under-17 Reggae Girls arrived in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Wednesday afternoon ahead of Friday’s first game against Bermuda in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Championship.
The 20-player squad, which includes eight overseas-based players, has now been reduced to 19 as second goalkeeper Tiana Schroeter did not make the trip from Jamaica due to visa issues.
Shayla Smart, who is based in Atlanta, is slated to join the team on November 19, should the Reggae Girlz make it to the final stage of the tournament.
Another overseas-based player Giselle Washington, who is yet to pick up her Jamaican passport in Florida, is also scheduled to join the team at a later date.
Head coach Lorne Donaldson was scheduled to arrive at team hotel late Wednesday evening. Donaldson will be assisted by Xavier Gilbert.
