ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader, Andrew Holness, says that the prime minister is worried about the effect several thousand Jamaican youths who registered as voters in September could have on the outcome of the upcoming general election.

Holness told a JLP mass rally in Southfield, St Elizabeth on November 19, that Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller recognises that she is in trouble with the number of late registrations to make the November voters’ list, and is having a difficulty naming a date for the general election.

“She knows she is trouble, struggling to set a date, consulting with the reader man, but she can’t find out what is her faith,” Holness said.

“She’s afraid of the young people who have come out in their numbers to register for the voters’ list, and she is scratching her head trying to figure what dem going do,” he added.

“Tonight I ask you to give us the support, give us the commitment, not just of those who are here, but I want you to remember your neighbour, your daughter and your son, who may feel that they don’t need to participate, or they are not participating because they are making a protest against the system.

“I say to you tonight that we don’t have the luxury of that protest. I say to you tonight that we are at a critical stage in our development, where you will, as masters of the destiny of this country, have to make that decision to come out and vote for a better quality of life,” he said.
