Youth outside CSJP target descend on job fair
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Officials of Citizens Security and Justice Programme (CSJP) say they are implementing systems to prevent a repeat of Friday’s chaotic situation at the Jamaica Conference Centre, where more than 500 of the nation’s youth flooded the location in search of jobs.
Karlene Buzzar, CSJP job placement officer, told OBSERVER ONLINE that the organisation hosted a job fair to target youth in a specific inner-city communities where the CSJP was already working with residents.
Reports are that the information about the job fair was widely circulated and people from across the island, including from communities not targeted by CSJP, descended on the centre.
“Our aim was to target approximately 200 youth. What we came and saw was more than what we had planned for,” Buzzar said.
She said as a result, the organisation was looking at new ways to inform people about programmes in a more structured way.
