AGLOW WITH TRANSFORMATION: Participants in the YUTE Microwork Programme show obvious appreciation for the Leadership Training and “Conversations in Greatness” which they experienced at a recent Transformational Workshop.  The one day event was led by Catherine Davis Smith (4th left), Project Manager/Training with the Joan Duncan Foundation. Alicia Glasgow Gentles (right) Executive Director of Youth Upliftment Through Employment (YUTE) chaired the closing ceremony. Her team members Roger Graham, Programme Manager (left) and Community Engagement Officers (7th and 3rd right) Sharlene Brooks and Kirk Rhoden facilitated the Workshop. The event was hosted by the Joan Duncan Foundation, a major funder of the YUTE Microwork Programme, which teaches participants how to access online self-employment projects from global clients. Launched in August 2015, YUTE Microwork is an innovative new initiative of YUTE’s dynamic second phase. 

The innovative programme of Youth Upliftment Through Employment (YUTE) is providing the opportunity for 50 young people to access self-employment through the Internet, as well as a powerful “enrichment package” of leadership skills, financial literacy and mentoring. The YUTE Microwork Programme, which runs from August 2015 to July 2016, is helping these 18 to 29 year-olds from vulnerable communities in the Kingston Metropolitan Area to access much needed income-generating opportunities. The technical aspect of the training teaches them how to perform a range of online tasks for international clients using the YUTE Microwork portal (yutejamaica.net) that was developed for the programme.
