Hydel, Mona for Alberga Cup final
MANY-TIME champions Hydel prep and Mona Prep will face each other in the 2015 Jamaica Independent Schools’ Association (JISA) Preparatory (PREP) Alberga Cup football final after registering wins in their respective semi-final encounters played at the UWI Bowl last Saturday.
Hydel came out 4-3 winners on penalties over Quest Prep after both teams had played to a 0-0 draw at full and extra time, while Mona clipped Sts Peter and Paul 2-1.
The Mona and Sts Peter and Paul semi-final encounter went into extra time after the team had played to a 1-1 draw at full time. Nando Meggs scored the winning goal in extra time to give Mona the win. Meggs also scored his team’s lone goal prior to extra time.
The final is scheduled for this Saturday at the same venue at 3:00 pm. Quest and Sts Peter and Paul will do battle in the third-place play-off match set to start at 1:00 pm.
Interestingly, dethroned champions Lannaman’s Prep, who defeated Hydel in the final last year, did not make it to the semi-finals.
Coach of Mona Alfred Nelson said he will be aiming to capture the double on Saturday, repeating the feat the school had done previously.
“I have not played Hydel this season and this will be the first time. They are currentlylooking very good and they are a pretty good team. However, my intention is to win the title,” Nelson said.
