Konshens owed a lot to Policeman

High-riding deejay Konshens did a lot of roadwork this year, making two trips each for shows in Africa and Europe. But it was an arresting song with a Dutch singer that was his biggest achievement.

“My first platinum plaque, which was for Policeman which I did with Eva Simmons was a high point. The single went gold in Belgium and double platinum in (The) Netherlands. This was a great feeling of accomplishment but also a realisation that so much more work is out there for me to do and accomplish,” he said.

Released in April, Policeman sold over 60,000 copies in The Netherlands and 15,000 in neighbouring Belgium.

Based on Policeman’s popularity, Konshens toured Europe a second time in October. He also did shows in Kenya and Zimbabwe late in the year.

“2015 had its ups and downs, good and bad, but I still put in a lot of work and stayed relevant along with my peers. I was able to tour a lot,” he said.

For 2016, he hopes to build on gains made with Policeman. He is featured on rapper Fabolous’ new mixtape.
