Emergency surgeries only as renovation begins at Spanish Town Hospital
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – Effective Monday, December 14, the operating theatre at the Spanish Town Hospital in St Catherine will be closed to facilitate urgent repairs.
According to a release from the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) on Sunday, the project will last for approximately five weeks.
During this period, only emergency surgeries will be done at the hospital while routine elective surgeries will be done at the St Joseph’s Hospital in Kingston. Additionally, SERHA says arrangements have been made for urgent elective surgeries to be done at the Kingston Public Hospital.
The region has apologised for any inconvenience this closure may cause and noted that the public will be updated when the renovation is completed.
The renovation of the Spanish Town Hospital’s operating theatre is part of the region’s drive to improve the operating theatres in all of the nine hospitals that fall under its jurisdiction, the release said. This project is being done in phases starting with the Spanish Town Hospital.
