Landlord allegedly locks cop out of his home
A landlord who is accused of locking out her tenant – a policeman – out of his tenement home, is to appear before the court on January 6 next year.
The woman, Maizie Roberts, of Abberville Drive, Kingston 20, should have appeared in court last Tuesday on a summons for alleged breaches of the Rent Restriction Act, but did not appear, hence the magistrate ordered that the summons be re-issued.
According to the allegations before the court, on October 29 at 6:30 am, the complainant – who had left his keys at the house – got home and found that the door and grille were locked.
He reportedly asked his landlord to open the door but realised that it was she who had locked the door and further refused to have it opened.
Consequently, the police were summoned and both the complainant and Roberts were transported to the police station, where the landlord reportedly told the police that she wanted the complainant off her property.
It is also reported that Roberts told the police that the complainant abused his wife and verbally assaulted her because she is a young woman.
The complainant was then assisted by the police in removing his items from the home and later took out a summons against his landlord.
