JUTC bans hoverboard use in HWT Transport Centre
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is advising the public that the riding of hoverboards in the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre is prohibited.
The JUTC’s Managing Director Colin Campbell says that the riding of hover boards in the transport centre endangers the safety of commuters and therefore the company is placing a ban on the use of them.
According to a news release from the JUTC Wednesday, hoverboards are often involved in accidents causing serious injury and in more extreme cases, have exploded and caught fire.
In some jurisdictions, hoverboards, which are like self-balancing motorised scooters, have been declared illegal, the JUTC said.
In declaring the ban on hoverboards in the transport centre, Campbell said that at all times the JUTC has to act in the interest of the safety of its passengers.
