MBU take aim at Copperwood in Captain’s KO
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Red Stripe Premier League team Montego Bay United will take on Division One team Copperwood FC today at the UDC field in the second round of the St James Football Association Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout, starting at 3:00 pm.
Montego Bay United, who beat FC Reno in a second-round Red Stripe Premier League game on Monday night to return to the top of the points table, are expected to field a team of mostly reserve players.
An upset to another Division One team in the first round three seasons ago should spur the Premier League leaders not to take the team lightly and come prepared.
Teenaged striker Johann Weatherly, who made his first start on Monday, could feature in the game as well as Ramone Sibley, Kashief Brown and Romario Clarke.
Copperwood advanced to the second round after a 3-1 win over Seaview in the first round.
Also today, promoted Senior League team Faulkland FC will face Western Confederation Super League team Montego Bay Boys Club at Jarrett Park, starting also at 3:00 pm.
On Monday, Androcle Poyser scored for times for Melbourne FC in a 4-0 win over Mountain Villa at Albion.
Poyser scored in the 5th, 70th, 72nd and 90th minute to knock out the Barrett Town based team as Melbourne booked their place in the quarterfinals.
At the UDC Field, Tomorrow’s People also advanced to the lst eight eliminating Catherine Hall FC 1-0 thanks to a goal in the 65th minute from Marcel Whyte.
