TVJ signs 5-year deal to televise KSAFA matches
The deal include KSAFA’s Under-13s, Under-15s, Under-17s Under-20s, Super League, Major League and Jackie Bell Knockout competitions.
General manager of television, Clair Grant, and KSAFA President, Ambassador AB Stewart Stephenson signed off on the deal at TVJ’s Boardroom, Lyndhurst Road, yesterday.
Showing her company’s willingness to promote such an ambitious project, Grant said: “We are looking forward to an exciting arrangement with one of the associations by far the most structured and organised, and we are really excited as we look to cover the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals of all the leagues staged by the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association.
“We are about national development. And for many years we have been involved in products, particularly when they begin to grow, and we are committed in that respect…we are the nation station and do not take that label lightly. We have a responsibility to do things that are going to benefit the nation’s in the long run. So looking at the KSAFA programme, which has a full slate of products in building from the youngest possible age, it seems a natural fit to be committed to such a project, as we have an opportunity to showcase players from when they are very young and will not be surprised when you seen them in the higher leagues at a stage of their development when they are on top of their games and trying to attract international sponsors.”
Stephenson stated that such a move has far-reaching benefits for the local game, its players from a tender age up to the senior levels, and referees alike.
“This for us, therefore, is an important development and gives the association an opportunity to expose its developing football talent from 10 right through to the senior player. It gives those players, in turn, an opportunity to be seen internationally and worldwide, especially those who are 18 years and over who [are] seeking to acquire overseas contracts.
“The agents in all these countries, may it be London, Toronto or Germany, wherever
TVJ will be beaming its signals, they will be able to see the players competitively in a match situation and that should be a tremendous boost to the players’ ability to get professional contracts abroad.”
Stephenson added: “It also exposes the clubs to a worldview. KSAFA already has seven clubs in the Premier League of our 34 current clubs, and the other aspiring clubs will also get a grand opportunity to display the level of their organisation at this level by putting their clubs on the field of play before an international audience.”
For the referees, it offers an opportunity to be seen live in more games now so they too can be assessed in their refereeing standards.
