Record-breaking drag finale
THE National Drag Racing Circuit (NDRC) closed its 2015 season on a high note with a series of record-breaking events at Vernamfield, Clarendon, with Nestle Supligen Drag Racing Challenge #5 last Sunday.
“We had a record number of racers in Pro Race 8, four racers, the most in Jamaica’s history. Also Pro Modified 10 had 12 racers, which is the highest amount ever at a NDRC event,” Stephen Gunter, NDRC executive member, told Auto.
Throw in 148 racers battling down the quarter-mile, the action was non-stop once the eliminations got going. By the end of the day, into the evening, several records had fallen.
Mandeville’s Xavia Murray lowered the NDRC front-wheel-drive quarter-mile time three times to 10.048. Orville Williams set a new four-wheel-drive record in his Nissan Pulsar GTi-R after posting a 8.944 second run. The overseas drivers got in on the fun as Cayman Islands’ Jody Jervis set the NDRC rear-wheel-drive 4,6, and rotary record to 8.903 seconds.
