Men with sub-machine gun drive vehicle into sea
ST THOMAS, Jamaica — A sub-machine gun and several rounds of ammunition were found in the Grants Pen area of St Thomas yesterday the police have reported.
According to the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), about 10:30 am a team was patrolling the Grants Pen main road when they reportedly signalled the driver of a Pajero motor vehicle to stop.
The driver did not comply and tried to elude the lawmen by driving onto Fish House Lane in the community, the CCU said in its report.
The lawmen pursued the vehicle and the driver drove the vehicle about 300 metres into the sea. The occupants of the vehicle were subsequently taken into custody by the police.
Members of the Marine Police and the Coast Guards assisted the team in the removal of the vehicle from the sea, and a search of the vehicle yielded a bag containing an Uzi sub-machine firearm and sixteen rounds of ammunition.
The identities of the men are being withheld to facilitate the investigation.
