Sanchez, Half Pint rock Famous Nightclub
Sounds of the 1980s reverberated through the Famous Nightclub in Portmore on Sunday night, as singers Sanchez and Half Pint thrilled patrons in ‘The Greatest Lovers Rock Night of the Year’.
The event was initially planned for Saturday, but technical challenges forced promoters to reschedule.
Before Sanchez and Half Pint held court, fans danced to music from the 1980s courtesy of Stone Love’s Geefus and Solar Dre, resident DJ at Famous.
For 45 minutes, Half Pint reeled off his extensive catalogue of hits. He interacted well with patrons, most of whom had not seen him on a local stage in years.
Winsome, Mr Landlord, Greetings, Substitute Lover and Suzie made up for his long absence, with the audience savouring every Half Pint lyric.
Sanchez, who shot to fame in the late-1980s with his cover of Jermaine Jackson’s Lonely Won’t Leave Me Alone (which he renamed Loneliness), has also been away from the Jamaica music scene for a while.
He did disappoint the fans, especially the ladies, when doing favourites like Hallelujah, Frenzy, Loneliness, Missing You, Pretty Little Girl, I Can’t Wait and Given a Chance.
Promoter Richard ‘Richie D’ Martin of Richie D Music was pleased with the event, despite not drawing a full house.
“The outcome was excellent, in my opinion, in regards to delivering quality entertainment and performances. Regardless of the low turnout due to the unfortunate postponement of the event, I am still very pleased to see the patrons enjoying the performances from two of Jamaica’s legendary performers,” he said.
