Men held for killing JUTC driver to return to court Thursday
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The two men implicated in the shooting death of 51-year-old Albert Barnes, a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus driver, are to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
The duo, Garfield Walters, 22, and 28-year-old George Ballentine, both of Bedward Gardens, Kingston 7, are charged with murder, illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
The men were booked to appear in court today, however only Ballentine appeared. As a result, the matter was set for mention on Thursday.
Barnes was driving a JUTC bus along Bedward Crescent in August Town, when he was shot on December 29.
The police were summoned and he was found with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to hospital where he died while being treated.
Walters later surrendered to the Yallahs police in St Thomas, on January 1, while Ballentine was picked up by the police during an operation in August Town, St Andrew, on January 4.
