St Catherine man charged in work programme scam
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – Police assigned to the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) on Wednesday, January 27 charged a St Catherine man for breaches of the Consumer Protection Act.
Charged is 53-year-old Everette Jackson, businessman, of 3 West, Greater Portmore in St Catherine.
Reports are that between March and July 2015, Jackson was paid $300,000 by the complainant in order to be placed in a job on a Canadian Work Programme.
After not being placed on a programme, a refund was requested. However, Jackson refused to return the money. A report was made to the C-TOC and following investigations he was charged.
Jackson is scheduled to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, March 23.
