Drag racing gives back
FOR the second year, the National Drag Racing Circuit (NDRC) has responded to the needs of the community that surrounds its racing base of Vernamfield, in Clarendon, through its Early Childhood Assistance Programme, by rendering assistance during 2015 to three basic schools.
“This is part of our ongoing programme to assist the three basic schools in the Vernamfield area,” Stephen Gunter, executive member — NDRC, told Auto.
Endorsed by the Child Development Agency and coordinated by Junior Buzzar, executive member — NDRC, the Power of Faith Basic School, the Gimme-Me-Bit Basic School and the Springfield Basic School received much-needed help.
“The children of the Power of Faith Basic School had to be sent home early because they could not be fed during normal school hours,” Buzzar explained
To that end, amongst donation of classroom teaching aids, paint, and door hardware, the Power of Faith Basic School received a stove with oven. The Gimme-Me-Bit Basic School received a water tank, locks for their bathroom doors, a DVD/CD player for use with Ministry of Education-issued teaching discs, as well as classroom teaching aids. The Springfield Basic School received a similar package.
“For Springfield, the CD player resulted in an expanded ability of teachers to interact with students, as their Ministry of Education issued teaching discs were previously unused due to the lack of a player,” Buzzar said.
The NDRC also provided the labour to install door locks and water tanks, with several executive members chipping in with their time.
