Education ministry declares Feb 5 National Clean-up Day for schools
THE MINISTRY of Education has designated February 5 as a National Clean-Up Day to facilitate vector control activities to reduce mosquito breeding in schools in light of the threat from the Zika virus.
“The Ministry of Education is calling on parents and other persons to participate in the school clean-up through the PTAs (Parent-Teacher Associations) and other community groups. National Clean-Up Day activities will include the sensitisation of parents and members of the community on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the Zika virus,” the ministry said in a release yesterday.
The ministry encouraged schools to partner with their parish councils, community groups and the Ministry of Health regional offices to facilitate successful execution of these activities.
School administrators have been directed to submit to their regional office, by today, a list of the required resources to support the clean-up activities.
