Gov’t takes multi-ministerial approach to tackle ZIKV
KINGSTON, Jamaica – It is a full house at the press room of the Office of the Prime Minister in Kingston as several ministers and representatives from the health sector are now gathered to update the country on the Government’s response to the Zika virus.
Minister of Health Horace Dalley said “all hands are on deck” as the country ramps up its response to the virus that was confirmed in the island last Friday.
The patient, who has now recovered, is a four-year-old child from Portmore, St Catherine.
Along with Dalley, Youth and Culture Minister Lisa Hanna, Minister of Education Ronald Thwaites, Minister of Local Government and Community Development Noel Arscott and Minister with responsibility for Information Sandra Falconer are present at the press briefing.
Dalley said, on the instructions of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, the ministries will be working together to tackle the virus on all fronts.
