CTL, UTASP agree to phased resumption of work
Representatives from Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) and workers represented by the Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Personnel (UTASP) have agreed to resume work on a phased basis, which began yesterday morning.
However, the holiday race meet scheduled for today (Ash Wednesday) has been cancelled.
The decision was made following a lengthy emergency conciliation session held at the Ministry of Labour and Social Security in Kingston on Monday night.
The parties also agreed to continue a second meeting at the ministry’s North Street offices yesterday morning for further discussions.
The CTL workers took strike action on Friday resulting in the cancellation of a 10-race programme on Saturday last.
The Jamaica Observer has learnt that the CTL workers have been protesting over the failure of the CTL management to implement elements of phase two of the reclassification exercise that was verbally agreed between CTL and the UTASP.
UTASP General Secretary St Patrice Ennis said that they are trying to finalise with CTL the collective labour agreement contract for the workers.
