Today is Nomination Day
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Candidates representing the two major political parties, the ruling People’s National Party and the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party along with independents will go to nomination centres across the island to be nominated as candidates in the general elections set for Thursday, February 25.
Parliament was dissolved on Friday, February 5, and will resume after the election with the swearing in of the 63 elected members of parliament (MPs).
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Glenmore Hinds told OBSERVER ONLINE that the police will be out today in full doing regular patrols while paying attention to all nomination centres.
“The police are ready for today, Nomination Day. We will be out in full force doing regular patrols and of course making sure that all goes well especially at the 63 nomination centres.
“Again we are imploring all Jamaicans of whatever persuasion to go about their business in a lawful matter, so that we can all have a peaceful Nomination Day,” Hinds said.
