Booted!
Savannah SC — one of the most successful clubs in western Jamaica football — appeared to have hit rock-bottom, as they were kicked out of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League on Monday, after failing to show for their third straight game.
The two-time champions have run into difficulties from all appearances, but it has been difficult to get information as calls to the numbers listed for the club have not been answered.
Efforts by the Competitions Committee to contact the club also failed, according to an e-mail received from the organisers of the competition.
Savannah SC — who won their second Western Confederation Super League title in four seasons in the previous season — showed up only for six games during which they earned one point, a 0-0 draw against promoted Lucea FC on the opening day.
Because they had passed the mid-way stage of the competition, teams will be awarded three points and three goals for scheduled games.
The Westmoreland club had shot up the leagues, earning promotion to the Premier League in just three seasons, winning the Westmoreland FA Major League and Super League in back-to-back seasons.
They then won their first three games in the Premier League in the 2012/13 season, beating Portmore United 1-0, Harbour View 1-0 and Cavalier 2-1, but then crashed just as dramatically, earning only three points from their next 18 games before beating Montego Bay United 1-0.
They ended the season last with 26 points and conceded 74 goals, but returned to the Western Confederation Super League and topped the regular season points tables, qualifying for the semi-finals. But they were beaten by Granville FC.
Last season, they beat Wadadah FC in the finals but failed to make it through the Confederation Play-offs.
