Striker hits three-timer as Arnett Gardens outgun SV Notch 8-4
BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic — Three goals by Michealos Martin propelled Arnett Gardens to an 8-4 demolition of SV Notch of Suriname in their Caribbean Football Union Club Championship Group Four encounter at the Estadio Quisqueya yesterday.
The slick-moving Martin netted in the 20th, 36th and 45th minutes, while Kemal Malcolm grabbed a brace in the 15th and 19th minutes in a frenetic first half in, which Vishinul Harris also scored in the 44th minute.
Newton Sterling, who replaced Harris in the 70th minute, slotted home in the 75th and Kenneil Hyde completed the rout in the 85th minute with a neat finish.
Garvy Kwelling in the 34th minute, a double strike by Orveo Anautan in the 36th and 42nd minutes, and Edven Walken in the 90th+5 minute replied for SV Notch.
Arnett Gardens, with their second-consecutive win following their 3-0 victory over America FC, are provisionally on top of the group with maximum six points.
Club Athletic Pantoja of the Dominican Republic, are on three points, and the pointless America FC of Haiti were in action at press time.
It was a game in which Arnett Gardens should have won by a much wider margin had it not been for wasteful finishing.
Head Coach Jerome Waite was pleased for the three points but peeved by the goals conceded.
“First and foremost, it’s another win and we have to congratulate these youngsters playing in this Club Championship for the first time,” said Waite.
“But the final score is not a true reflection of the game, and the low point of the game was the goals that we gave up and that resulted in us easing up off the pedal,” he noted.
“We went 3-0 up and the opponents didn’t show much like they had something to offer, and we eased up off the pedal and they got those goals,” explained Waite.
“But it was a good learning experience and to see what they had to offer,” he added.
