Road deaths jump to 82 since Jan 1
EIGHTY-TWO people have died in 72 road crashes in Jamaica between January 1 and March 14.
This is five more that the corresponding period last year and 18 more that the same period in 2014, according to the National Road Safety Council (NRSC).
A breakdown of the figures showed that motorcyclists, as in last year and the year before, accounted for most of the deaths.
Of the 82, 32 motorcyclists have been killed, followed by 13 pedestrians, 12 private motor car passengers, and 11 private motor car drivers.
Five pedal cyclists, three pillion passengers, three commercial motor vehicle drivers, two commercial motor vehicle passengers, and one public passenger vehicle were the others killed on the roads, according to statistics provided by the NRSC.
A total of 382 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes last year.
