Reggae Boyz Giles Barnes urges fans to pour into ‘Office’
English-born Reggae Boyz attacking player, Giles Barnes has called on Jamaican supporters to turn out in their numbers and lend support to the national team when it goes up against Costa Rica when the CONCACAF semi-final round of the Russia World Cup Qualification series resumes next week Friday.
Barnes, who has represented Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and Doncaster Rovers FC in England before injuries forced him across the Atlantic Ocean to Major League Soccer and the Houston Dynamo, made the appeal a few days ago.
“Hey guys, this is Giles Barnes here. Can’t wait to see you all at the end of the month,” he said, referring to the game against Costa Rica inside the National Stadium on Good Friday.
The Boyz will then leave the following day for the return fixture inside the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose on Tuesday, Match 29.
Barnes, who plays as an attacking midfielder or striker, and who has hit seven goals in 12 appearances for England Under-19s, added: “I’m hoping to see you guys all screaming for us and cheering for us to put on a show for you, so come out to the National Stadium and represent. Much love.”
Barnes, the Dynamo captain, joins teammate and Leicester City Captain Wes Morgan in their appeal for full support from the Jamaican fans.
The Reggae Boyz are currently sitting in third place, on an inferior goal difference with Panama, in the four-team Group B on three points, following a 0-2 loss against Panama, and a 1-0 win against Haiti.
Costa Rica lead the points standing with maximum six points after a 1-0 win at home to Haiti, and an away 2-1 triumph over Panama, who are also on three points. Haiti are rooted at the foot of the table without a point.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), in an effort to give patrons more time to purchase tickets in what is a bust sporting period, startedselling tickets on Wednesday, a few days earlier than normal, and especially with the visiting Costa Ricans having already made enquiries of the JFF about tickets for the grandstand.
Ticket prices are as follows: grandstand Category One – $6,500; grandstand Category Two – $5,500; and bleachers – $1,200.
Tickets can be obtained at the following outlets: Petcom, Portmore; Total at Stanton Terrace, Dunrobin and Liguanea; Captain’s Bakery at all locations; Western Sports, Twin Gates and Montego Bay; York Pharmacy, Kingston; Richie B’s Liquor Centre, Mary Brown’s Corner; World of Sport, Negril; and Jamaica Pegasus.
