Fireworks expected as Western Confederation Super League ends
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Fireworks are expected at both ends of the table as the regular season of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League ends with teams still in the hunt for semi-finals places and also to avoid relegation.
Four teams, Sandals Whitehouse, Beaches Negril, Clark’s Town and Petersfield FC are going after the two remaining semi-final spots to join former champions Granville FC and Wadadah FC.
At the other end of the tables, promoted Reggae Youths and Salt Marsh United will meet at Davis Pen where Reggae Youths need only a point to stay in the competition next year while the home team must win.
Both Granville FC and Wadadah FC will avoid each other in the semi-finals having already secured the first and second places.
Granville FC, the mid-season champions are on 38 points while Wadadah FC on 30 points.
Clark’s Town will get points from their game against Savannah SC and go to 28 points but could be passed by both Sandals Whitehouse and Beaches Negril if both teams are able to win.
Sandals Whitehouse are on 26 points and will host Granville FC who have nothing to gain, or lose, while Beaches Negril on 25 points will host relegated Lucea FC.
A win for Beaches Negril would see them edge Clark’s Town on goal-difference and secure their place while the Trelawny club could still advance with a loss if Sandals Whitehouse fail to get three points against Granville FC at home.
Clark’s Town can only sit and watch and hope as they can only get three goals from their awarded game after Savannah SC, last season’s winners were kicked out after missing three straight games in the first round.
Petersfield FC are dark horses for a semi-final place, as they should get points from their aborted game against Reggae Youths last Wednesday and if they could pull off a win against Wadadah FC at Jarrett Park and move to 27 points and the other results are in their favour plus they must overcome Sandals Negril’s massive goal-difference of 17.
