Bird Catcher in good nick for 1,000 – Fitzroy Glispie
After finishing second to the talented Nuclear Affair in last month’s Thornbird Stakes over 1,400 metres, trainer Fitzroy Glispie is expecting another good run from Bird Catcher in tomorrow’s running of the $3.25 million 1,000 Guineas (fillies) sponsored by Post To Post betting company.
The Graded Stakes event is set to be contested over a mile.
“The Thornbird Stakes was an improvement based on her development. That was a very good run by Bird Catcher, but I have to take into consideration that she was at an advantage in the handicaps. She ran with 51 kiliogrammes and the top horses were allowing her a lot of weight but she is a nice filly and I am expecting her to be there in the finish,” Glispie said.
As to her preparation coming into the race, Glispie indicated that all is going well for his filly.
“She ( Bird Catcher) has been training pretty good, she is good in health and so far everything is going to plan. She has done everything that has been asked of her and so I really can’t complain about her training,” the trainer said.
“Based on the current situation, I am expecting her to be among the top four in the end,” Glispie continued.
Glispie said that the distance of a mile for the race won’t be a problem for Bird Catcher.
“The journey of a mile won’t be a problem for Bird Catcher. She went there (1,600 metres) already and finished second, so she will definitely be there in the end,” he declared.
