Three alleged robbers killed in shootout with police
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — Three men, who were among a group that staged a robbery at a Savanna-la-Mar business establishment, were shot and killed during an alleged gunfight with the police in the wee hours of Friday morning.
The police, who disclosed that an illegal firearm was recovered, also said that one of the robbers managed to escape.
Reports are that about 3:15 this morning the Westmoreland police were summoned to a business establishment in the parish capital, where a robbery was in progress. The police party was greeted with gunfire upon their approach.
Three men were later found suffering from gunshot wounds following a shootout and were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.
The police have not released the identities of the dead men.
The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has been called in to commence their probe.
