Dunbeholden thrash Downs in South Central play-offs
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Alwin Morgan scored four times as Dunbeholden FC thrashed Downs FC 5-0 in the opening round of games in the Charley’s JB Rum/South Central Confederation Super League play-offs at the weekend.
Playing at home, the St Catherine Major League champions ran circles around their Manchester opponents and duly opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Morgan.
But the lanky forward had to wait until the 75th for his second goal, before netting his hat-trick in the 79th and his fourth in the 80th. Lorenzo Dubidad got the other goal in the 63rd.
Dunbeholden are now the early pacesetters in Zone Two with three points.
The other game in the group, between New Bowens FC and St Bess FC, was scheduled to be played on Monday at the Wembley Excellence Centre in Clarendon.
Jamalco FC lead Zone One on goal difference after recovering from an early setback to beat Tru-Juice FC 2-1 in the early kick-off at Brooks Park on Saturday.
The Clarendon Major League champions trailed 0-1 after one minute following a strike from Tru-Juice’s Oshane Edwards, but rallied with a pair of second-half goals to stun their St Catherine opponents.
Midfielder Erron Brown started the revival with a 55th-minute equaliser, before schoolboy Greggton Charlton secured the victory in the 63rd.
Manchester champions Ricam Academy also got off to a winning start in Zone One, but needed a last-gasp strike from central defender Leroy Esson to clip Black Star FC 1-0 in the feature game at Brooks Park.
