KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — The Government will be taking steps, this year, to improve service delivery within the health sector.

In noting its recognition of the challenges impacting the sector, Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen, says the Government is committed to “working assiduously, during the first year of its administration, to tackle them.”

He made the announcement while delivering the Throne Speech during the Ceremonial Opening of Parliament, for the 2016/17 legislative year, at Gordon House yesterday.

The Governor General said the administration will be focusing on primary health care by expanding the public/private partnership approach to various services provided.

He pointed out that the administration “will continue to stress the importance of partnership and community mobilisation in promoting and protecting the health of Jamaicans.”

The Governor General said the sector will also benefit from a new 10-year strategic development plan that will focus on, among other things, expanding health care access supported by infrastructural development.

The Throne Speech was delivered under the theme: ‘Building a Partnership for Prosperity’.
