DEFENDING champions Windward Road amassed combined scores of 562.50 to retain their title at the 2016 Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) Primary and Junior High Schools Track and Field Championships which ended at the Stadium East Track yesterday.

The Oral Whilby-coached team from East Kingston and the Ransford Spaulding-coached John Mills aggregation had a battle-royal in the championships, especially on yesterday’s final day, right to the final event after starting the third day locked on 200.50 points each.

It was a closely contested duel that was the highlight of the championships, especially entering the relays where points were crucial. Windward Road managed to capture the majority of the 4×100 metres relay finals to pull away from their arch-rivals to come out victorious for a third consecutive year.

The top schools in the overall points standing are as follows: Windward Road with 562.50 points, followed by John Mills with 457.50, New Day 190, Melrose 183.50, Louise Bennett-Coverley 169, Swallowfield 167, Constant Spring 160, Cockburn Gardens 142.50, Mico Practising 142, Shortwood Practising 119, Calabar 108, and Maverley with 101 points.

Windward Road also walked away with the top girls’ team trophy with a total of 264 points, followed by John Mills with 190 points, New Day 113, Melrose 103, Louise Bennett-Coverley 99, Constant Spring with 98 points.

The Windward Road boys also came out as champions with 298.50 points, ahead of John Mills on 267.50, Swallowfield 95, Cockburn Gardens 90.50, Melrose 80.50, Mico Practising 80, New Day 77 and Braeton with 74 points.

Kevin Wilson of John Mills won the Class One boys’ 100 metres final in 12.03 seconds, ahead of Shevioe Reid of Braeton in 12.30, while the girls’ Class One 100m was won by Jada Beckford in 13.53 seconds, with Tatyanna Crawford of John Mills second in 13.85 seconds.

Kurt Williams of Windward Road was the winner of the Class Two boys’ 100m in 12.63 seconds ahead of Kalonji Grant in 12.64, while the Class Two girls’ 100m was won by Anissa Campbell of Windward Road in 13.81 from Jada Lobbon of Louise Bennett-Coverley in 13.89 seconds.

Mickel Wilson of Braeton won the Class Three boys’ 100m in 13.30 seconds ahead of Bob Fisher of Swallowfield in 13.31, while the Class Three girls’ 100m was won by Ashley Johnson of Melrose in 13.99, ahead of Sage Jones of New Day in 14.06 seconds.

Tyrese Brown of John Mills captured the Class One boys’ 400m in 54.52 seconds ahead of Jermaine Adamson of Shortwood Practising in 54.70, while the Class One girls’ 400m was won by Janealia Brown of Windward Road in 1:00.59 ahead of Kevina Roach of Shortwood Practising in 1:01.80.

Jaheim Gilmore of of John Mills won the Class Two boys’ 400m final in 54.51 seconds ahead of Javier Brown of Shortwood (55.52), with the Class Two girls’ 400m won by Sheniece Benjamin of John Mills in 1:03.03 minutes ahead of Amanda Spaulding of Windward Road in 1:03.94 minutes.

John Mills and Windward Road were tied in the Class One boys’ 4×100 metres relay in 46.87 seconds, with Swallowfield third in 48.00, while Windward Road captured the Class One girls’ 4x100m in 51.87 seconds ahead of John Mills in 52.01 seconds.

The Class Two boys’ 4x100m relay was won by Windward Road in 47.93 seconds ahead of Calabar (49.75), while the Class Two girls’ 4x100m was won by Windward Road in 52.05 ahead of John Mills (55.62).

Windward Road captured the girls’ 800m sprint medley open in a time of 2:04.20 minutes ahead of John Mills (2:08.86) with Swallowfield third in 2:12.40, while the boys’ 1600 sprint medley open was won by Windward Road in a time of 4:12.28 minutes ahead of John Mills (4:15.00) and Mico Practising (4:18.28).

John Mills won the boys’ 4x400m relay in 3:41.12 minutes ahead of Shortwood Practising (3:47.20) and Louise Bennett-Coverley (3:47.20), while the girls’ 4x400m open was won by Windward Road in 4:31.63 minutes ahead of Melrose (4:33.74) and Lousie Bennett-Coverley (4:35.29).

The boys’ 1500m open was won by Derrick Campbell of Lousie Bennett-Coverley in 4:54.16, while the girls’ 1500m open was won by Terah Foreman of Calabar in 5:57.32 minutes ahead of Sarah Johnson of Lousie Bennett-Coverley 5:58.46 and Hortense Davidson of Shortwood Practising (6:18.05).
