Somerton eye semis in St James FA Sandals/ATL Division One
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Somerton FC can join Salt Spring United in the semi-finals of the St James FA Sandals/ATL Division One competition with a win over Paradise FC in their third-round game this afternoon at the Somerton Community Centre.
Somerton FC, the only team in any of the two St James FA leagues to have not lost a game all season, are on 27 points from 11 games, two points behind leaders Salt Spring United, with a game in hand.
Two other semi-final aspirants — fourth-placed Bogue FC and fifth-placed Fire House SC — both of whom were promoted from the Division Two last year, will also seek to bolster their semi-final chances today.
Bogue FC will face Irwin FC at the UDC field, while Fire House and last-placed Salt Spring Roses will meet at Westgreen.
Somerton FC will face an improving Paradise FC club that have won their last two games and are unbeaten over their last three, and will be hoping to move away from the relegation zone.
With three games to go after today, Somerton are almost certain to qualify for the top four as three more points could be enough to see them through.
Fire House SC, the Division Two champions last season, should get the better of Salt Spring Roses, who are sure to be relegated to the second division on one point from 11 games played.
Bogue FC, the Division Two runners-up last season, could face a tough job against Irwin FC who have shown sparks of life of late, and could put up a fight.
