Spotted — Sharon Clark-Rowley
Who? Sharon Clark-Rowley, wife of the prime minister of Trinidad & Tobago, Dr Keith Christopher Rowley.
Where? Villa Being, Tobago on Friday, April 22 at Lévé — Luxury Meets Lifestyle at the Tobago Jazz Experience.
Forget the fact that her arrival is akin to that of a flotilla and that she’s on the arm of the prime minister of Trinidad & Tobago, who happens to be her husband of three decades, Sharon makes a profound statement all on her own.
It is not our first encounter — a few years earlier she was the wife of the leader of the opposition, and equally charming.
By the way, her security detail — maintaining a respectful distance — looks out for her on Charlotte Street, where she continues to pay her own bills and shop.
SO heralds her as the BFF every woman ought to have.
On being the wife of the PM… It was for better or for worse… I met a geologist who became a politician and who is now the prime minister.
About that first encounter… I was working at the bursary (UWI, St Augustine); he was the head of Scientific Research. There was an attraction. We chatted and that was it, really. I completed my law studies, we kept in touch, a relationship started… we married in 1985.
The family… Two daughters, 29 and 27 — both national scholars: Tonya, an attorney-at-law with a master’s degree in Corporate and Commercial Law from the London School of Economics; and Sonel, who is pursuing a doctorate in School Psychology.
Grandmother of one… I’m a doting grandma to grandson Lucas Kristian (the son of her elder daughter Tonya and husband Kareem Cuffy).
On political ambitions… Never!
Do not lose yourself… The morning of elections “it’s all in God’s hands”.
First thought post-election… Thank you, God!
24 hours later… I was at my desk (Clark-Rowley is a partner at MG Daly & Partners and is responsible for the firm’s conveyancing department).
Who would have thunk it…
Sharon’s husband, Dr Keith Rowley, was a personal friend of the late Dr George Phillip of the Jamaica Observer.
The couple have enjoyed a stay in Jamaica at Sandals.
