St James Parish Council renames two streets in honour of Theodore Whitmore
CATHERINE HALL, St James — Former national football player and coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore was on Tuesday honoured by the St James Parish Council with two streets in his name, in Catherine Hall.
“I am deeply honoured and extremely privileged to be among the list of persons to be recognised by the Montego Bay (St James) Parish Council in such a significant way,” said Whitmore.
The two streets, Theodore Whitmore Close and Theodore Whitmore Crescent are located in the vicinity of the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Whitmore said he was humbled by the gesture and will continue to serve his community and country.
“It is my desire to continue serve my country and community by contributing in all ways I can to uplift those in whom I come in contact with, but more importantly, the less fortunate,” assured Whitmore.
Whitmore was among nine Montegonians — living and deceased — who have offered exemplary service and have contributed significantly to the development of Montego Bay and its environs through business, politics and sports. Each had streets named after them.
The other nine individuals are Dr Marco Brown, Charles E Sinclair, Guiseppe Maffessanti, Glaister Dehaney, Clarence Nelson, Arthur Gilchrist, Francis Tulloch and AGS Coombs.
