Thousands to put work into Labour Day today
Prime Minister Andrew Holness will participate at 10 am in the National Labour Day Project at Gregory Park Basic School, Portmore, St Catherine. He will then join his constituents at 12:00 noon in St Andrew West Central.
Oppositon spokeman on finance Dr Peter Phillips said he will participate in several projects across his St Andrew East Central constituency starting at 11:00 am. These include: Ambrook Lane, repairs to basic school; cleaning of drains behind Elspeth Ave; repairs to Kiddies Caring Basic; repairs to bathrooms at 86 Maxfield Avenue; Dnrobin Basic School; and repairs to the senior citizens home at Kew Road, among others.
The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) said it would be working at the Early Stimulation Programme — A learning Institution at 1A Ostend Avenue (Michael Manley Boulevard) East Kingston from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. The scope of activities will include bushing rear of the school yard, fogging of mosquitoes and spraying the area for rodents (in collaboration with the Health Ministry), pruning of trees, and applying sand to the play area.
The concept of putting voluntary work into Labour Day was introduced in 1972 under then Prime Ministrer Michael Manley.
