Audit of Hanover Parish Council commences
HANOVER, Jamaica — The Ministry of Local Government has commenced an audit of the operations at the plagued Hanover Parish Council.
Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie made the announcement today during a special sitting of the local authority in Lucea, Hanover.
“The Ministry of Local Government will take full control of all the documents at the Hanover Parish Council and immediately conduct an audit,” McKenzie told the meeting.
“Any act to prevent the team [undertaking the audit] from the Ministry of Local Government will be viewed as an act or treason,” added the tough talking McKenzie.
He said the team is expected to conclude its investigations within another three weeks.
The minister was speaking against the background of a recent damming report from the Office of the Contractor General regarding the operations of the council.
