Flash flood watch extended for St Mary, Portland, St Thomas
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological (Met) Service has extended a flash flood watch for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Mary, Portland and St Thomas, effective until 7:00 am on Tuesday.
The Met Service in a news release Monday also said the flash flood watch in effect for St Ann has been discontinued with immediate effect.
The Met Service said a persistent trough across the central Caribbean along with a tropical wave south of Jamaica continue to produce rainfall activity across the island. It said radar and satellite imagery indicate light to moderate showers affected sections of northern and south eastern parishes throughout today.
“The forecast is for periods of moderate showers and isolated thunderstorms to continue to affect mainly St Mary, Portland and St Thomas tonight and through Tuesday.
Marine interests are advised to exercise caution as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms,” the release said.
