PitchIT Caribbean Challenge for Montego Bay Convention Centre

ROSE HALL, St James — PitchIT Caribbean will host the region’s largest technology entrepreneurship competition scheduled for the Montego Bay Convention Centre starting tomorrow.

ROSE HALL, St James — PitchIT Caribbean will host the region’s largest technology entrepreneurship competition scheduled for the Montego Bay Convention Centre starting tomorrow.

PitchIT Caribbean is the central operation of the Caribbean Mobile Innovation Project, which is part of the Entrepreneurship Programme for Innovation in the Caribbean (EPIC), a Canadian government-funded and infoDev/World Bank Group-executed initiative, focused on the development of mobile apps across the region.

Tech entrepreneur finalists were drawn from nearly 80 entries across the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The two-day competition will see nine teams each from Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago; two from Barbados and one each from Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, Guyana and St Lucia, vying for a share of US$75,000 in cash and prizes.

The event will see the mobile app developers pitching to a panel of judges and an audience of regional and global investors.

Five winners will each be awarded a coveted spot in PitchIT Caribbean business accelerators located in Barbados, Dominica, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago, as well as US$5,000 in seed funding to develop their business.

Business acceleration includes expert business and technology mentoring, network opportunities, working space and facilities, expense-paid trips to international conferences and competitions, intense product development and investor-readiness training.

Meanwhile, Montego Bay Convention Centre will host two other important events in coming weeks Elevated Talks on June 25-25 and Wealth Auto Show from July 2 to 3.
