Beware of malicious e-mail, cops warn
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is alerting persons, particularly those in corporate Jamaica, of an e-mail, purporting to be from the police, which has been circulating.
A media release from the JCF’s Corporate Communications Unit said the e-mail sent from the domain jamaicanpolice.com, purports to have received a complaint against the recipient and advises the user to follow a series of instructions.
The release said this e-mail was not sent by any arm or division of the Constabulary, and persons in receipt of this e-mail are advised not to respond in any way, as it is suspected to be a phishing tool—designed to procure persons’ personal data. The police said it is best to delete it immediately.
The Information and Communication Technology Division of the force is now working along with Cybercrimes detectives to determine the source of the e-mail the release said.
