Mico ‘C’ lift Intermediate League netball trophy
MICO ‘C’ defeated Liguanea United 31-21 to capture the 2016 Netball Jamaica/Sunshine Cereals and Snacks Intermediate League final at the Leila Robinson Courts on Saturday.
The Marescaux Road-based Mico ‘C’ aggregation, coached by Annette Dale ended the competition unbeaten, while the St Andrew North-based Liguanea, guided by Sylvester ‘Chris’ Campbell, suffered their only defeat to Mico ‘C’.
Winning coach Daley said while it was a tough match, her team was confident of victory at every stage.
“I am feeling very good, likewise the players who worked very hard throughout the competition. We went into the final fully confident that we will come out victorious and achieve our success,” Daley said.
Meanwhile, losing coach Campbell was disappointed his team was unable to replicate the quality that took them through the rounds and into the final.
“You cannot play very good to win your semi-final and don’t continue on that path, because that game is not the final. The final is where you must produce all the efforts, and (failure to do that) cost us the match,” he lamented.
Goal-shooter Lecia Dale was the top scorer for champions Mico ‘C’ with 19 goals from 29 attempts, while Nickiesha Williams scored 11 goals from 13 attempts, and Tashieka Laird got 10 goals from 22 efforts for losers Liguanea United.
Meanwhile, Alexander Strikers beat Molynes United ‘C’ 30-27 in the third-place play-off game. Kestina Sturridge scored 20 goals from 22 attempts for Alexander Strikers, while Rocoya Douglas with 15 from 24 and Ameira Thomas 12 from 21 scored for Molynes ‘C’.
