Club Stars, Revelation FC to meet in St James FA Div 1 final

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Underdog teams Club Stars and Revelation FC have triumphed in the St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Division One competition, earning promotion to next season’s Senior League. Both teams will contest next weekend’s final.

Club Stars who were in the semi-finals for the second straight year and Revelation FC scored upset wins over the more fancied Salt Spring United and Somerton FC respectively in the semi-finals.

They will now meet in the first game of a double-header at Jarrett Park on Sunday, June 19, before Faulkland FC and Catherine Hall FC meet to decide the Senior League finals.

Salt Spring United and Somerton were separated at the top of the points tables after both amassed 36 points, while Revelation FC were third with 33 points. Club Stars were the last team to secure their place, finishing fourth with 29 points, edging Fire House SC on goal difference.

Salt Spring United, red hot favourites to return to the Senior League after just one season in the Division One, had beaten Club Stars twice in the regular season, but after being held 3-3 in the first leg of the semi-finals, were beaten 2-1 in the return leg played last weekend.

Revelation came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw with Somerton FC in the first leg last Monday, but two goals from Sabastian Robinson in Monday’s return leg semi-finals at the UDC field, helped them to a 3-2 win and a 5-4 aggregate victory, as they returned to the Senior League after a two-year hiatus.

Revelation FC jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Orlando Gilpin in the 19th minute and Robinson in the 29th minute, before Dwayne Anderson pulled one back for Somerton FC in the 43rd minute.

Robinson then restored the two goals lead in the 65th minute, but Marvin Ellis’s 70th minute pulled Somerton FC back to within a goal of the lead, made the final 20 minutes of the game interesting.
