RESCUERS were yesterday relieved that the driver of this Mitsubishi Galant motor car survived this horrible crash on the Albion main road in St Thomas. The driver’s side of the vehicle, in particular, was extensively damaged when it smashed into a light post — causing several Jamaica Public Service customers to be without power.

It took firefighters a while to separate the wrecked vehicle from the wooden post.

Alleged eyewitness Leo Brown said that he was leaving the Advanced Service Station — a nearby gas outlet — when he heard a “loud boom” and saw sparks of fire on the power lines.

“Mi think a lightning lick the wire enuh,” he told the Jamaica Observer, as he lamented that the wet road surface may have contributed to the crash.

Meanwhile, the Observer was informed that the injured driver, a 32-year-old male, was helped from the mangled wreck by passers-by and employees of the Advanced Service Station and transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
