No luxury of personal opinion
Dear Editor,
The plea for Prime Minister Andrew Holness to replace Marlene Malahoo Forte as attorney general is fully supported.
We in the Diaspora are so troubled to have Jamaica’s name being pushed way down again. The international press has not been kind.
But Phillip Mascoll’s column in the Jamaica Observer missed, perhaps, the most important aspect of the issue: The attorney general says that the sentiment expressed in her tweet was her own personal view.
Well, what would be the opinion given in her official capacity to the Government and the people of Jamaica? And, how would she expect that opinion to be received?
A government official, particularly the attorney general for all Jamaicans is not afforded the luxury of publicly expressing personal views. It is dangerous in the extreme for an attorney general not to appreciate that. For Heaven’s sake, replace her, Holness.
