Robot taxi driver injures route inspectors in attempt to evade police
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Transport Authority is expressing outrage at an incident in which the driver of a robot taxi is said to have injured two route inspectors in an attempt to flee from the police in May Pen, Clarendon, yesterday.
According to the Transport Authority, the police was conducting a spot check when they signalled the driver of a private motor car with an expired licence disk to stop. The driver, in an alleged attempt to evade the cops, tried to make a u-turn but was impeded by a line of traffic and instead drove on to the embankment hitting the passenger door of the parked Transport Authority unit.
One of the route inspectors, who was alighting the vehicle at the time, sustained injuries to the neck, face and leg while his colleague sustained injury to the leg.
Managing Director of the Transport Authority Cecil Morgan said he is calling on all well-thinking Jamaicans to support the agency’s ongoing efforts to monitor and regulate public transportation, discourage unsafe and unlawful practices, and to use legal public transportation services.
