KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — The Police High Command is reassuring citizens that they have identified persons in western Jamaica who are known to be violence producers and are moving to apprehend them.

Speaking at a press conference at the Office of the Police Commissioner in St Andrew on Monday, Communication Officer in the Corporate Communication Unit, Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, informed that “few persons” are responsible for the increase in crimes committed in the area.

“From the data and information that we have, very few persons are actually committing these crimes. Some of them are wanted and when we say they are wanted, it means that we have information and allegations that tie them to a particular matter that we have investigated,” she said.

Superintendent Lindsay reminded residents that the aim of the JCF is to restore normalcy in communities that have been impacted by recent upheavals.

She pointed out that joint military/police operations have been increased in sections of Western Jamaica, which include Westmoreland, Hanover and St James, adding that law-abiding citizens could be inconvenienced, particularly as it relates to their movements.

Superintendent Lindsay also urged residents to travel with identification cards, so that the police may identify and verify who they are, if the need arises.
