KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) – Attorney, and wife of the Prime Minister Trinidad and Tobago, Sharon Rowley, says she is very impressed with the modern facilities at the Norman Manley Law School.

Mrs. Rowley,  who toured the institution yesterday, said that the structure was a “major improvement from the days when we were in an old colonial-style building in Trinidad”.

“I think students are fortunate to be studying in this kind of environment today, compared to when I studied, when access to material is phenomenal,” she said.

A lawyer for over 30 years, Mrs Rowley said that students now have access to school resources online, “so you don’t have to spend hours upon hours sitting down in the library opening law books; it comes to you at home, so it facilitates your education”.

The tour, which also included the Law Faculty, formed part of the itinerary of Mrs Rowley and her husband, Dr Keith Rowley, who are in the island for an official visit.

Mrs Rowley studied at the UWI Faculty of Law, at both the St Augustine and Cave Hill campuses.

She graduated from the Bachelor of Laws programme with Honours, and went on to obtain her Legal Education Certificate (LEC) at Hugh Wooding Law School in Trinidad and Tobago.

In 1983, Mrs Rowley began work as a State attorney at the Ministry of the Attorney General, in both the Chief State Solicitor’s and the Solicitor General’s Departments.

Mrs. Rowley entered private practice with the firm MG Daly and Partners in 1993.
