Parchment pulls out of Olympics
Jamaica’s 110m hurdles Olympic bronze medallist Hansle Parchment is returning home from the pre-Olympic Games camp after failing to recover from an injury that ruled him out of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) National Senior Championships last month.
Parchment, 26, was granted a medical exemption and named on the team, but has not recovered sufficiently to press on just days ahead of the start of the Olympic Games. He missed training yesterday, and left the camp last night a dejected athlete.
“It’s a part of life,” he told the Jamaica Observer, as he pulled his luggage outside the Linx Hotel. “I won’t be giving any interviews now, probably later down,” he added.
The athlete indicated that it was the same old injury, though he refused to elaborate.
When contacted shortly after, Dr Warren Blake, president of the JAAA, also refused to comment on the reasons regarding the athlete withdrawing from the Olympics.
Parchment, who is the national record holder with 12.94 seconds, was expected to form a formidable team with Omar McLeod as Jamaica hunt two medals in the sprint hurdles.
Only last year he won silver at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, to add to the bronze he won at the London Olympics four years ago.
