House burglar to spend two years in prison
A man who confessed to breaking into a house in St Andrew was sentenced to 24 months in prison when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.
Thirty-six-year-old Mickey Simpson pleaded guilty to a charge of housebreaking. The court heard that on July 13 Simpson broke into the complainant’s house and stole $30,000 and US$220 cash.
Simpson was caught hiding behind a barrel by the complainant, who summoned the police.
When the police arrived, the money was found in Simpson’s possession and he was subsequently arrested and charged.
Prior to his sentencing, Senior Parish Judge Judith Pusey asked Simpson why he broke into the dwelling and stole the money.
“Mi break in the house, but mi never get nuh money,” Simpson responded.
“Why you go in there?” Pusey asked.
This time Simpson did not respond.
“I don’t like the housebreaking thing enuh. It is one of the most terrifying things to wake up and see somebody in your house,” Pusey said.
Simpson was then handed the two-year sentence.
