Trelawny cop killed in hit-and-run
TRELAWNY, Jamaica – Members of the Trelawny Police Division were this evening plunged into mourning following the bizarre death of one of their colleagues who was mowed down in a hit-and- run in front of the police station in Clark’s Town in the parish.
The deceased cop has been identified as Inspector Mark Gibbs, who was assigned to the Clark’s Town Police Station.
Reports are that sometime after 4:00 pm Inspector Gibbs was a part of a police party conducting spot checks at the front of the Clark’s Town Police Station when he signalled a motorcar to stop.
The senior cop was hit as he attempted to jump out of the way as the driver, who slowed down and pretended he was about to stop, sped up and swung the vehicle on the Inspector.
Gibbs sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to the Falmouth Public General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The police have since launched a massive manhunt for the driver of the car.
