Cop on fraud charges for gas card misuse
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A policeman will today answer to fraud charges in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court after he was accused of misusing a government issued Gas Advance Card.
A release from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) yesterday identified the accused as District Constable Vaughn Green, who was assigned to the National Police College of Jamaica (NPCJ).
He was charged with nine counts of fraudulent conversion and diversion of government property on Friday.
Green allegedly fleeced approximately $60,000 from a Gas Advance Card for a defective service vehicle which was out of service and undergoing repairs at the Transport Management and Maintenance Division.
MOCA said it is believed that the policeman committed the act between September 18, 2014 and October 6, 2014.
Green’s supervisor was informed that the card was being used whilst the vehicle was out of service. The accused was subsequently informed of the allegations and, according to MOCA, admitted to using the Gas Advance Card to obtain money and petrol for his personal use.
